Creating Your Ad
Helpful tips for ad design and images.
- Use a page layout program (such as QuarkXpress or InDesign) for best results.
- If you are using Microsoft Word, please take note!
We do not recommend sending MS Word documents for publication. Because of the way Word handles fonts (typefaces), your ad may not display the way you had intended. When opened on another computer, your Word document may not use the same fonts. When your fonts are not available, Word will substitute a different font (usually Times Roman and/or Courier). Word does NOT warn about any missing fonts.
Materials Required by The Oregonian
For Ads in PDF Format:
- The PDF file.
- A hard copy or laser proof of your ad.*
For Ads in the Native Application Format:
- The native application document file.
- A copy of ALL screen & printer font files used in the ad.
- A copy of every image file linked to, or supporting the ad.
- A hard copy or laser proof of your ad.*
*It is very important that you provide a hard copy proof of your ad to your sales representative for use as a match proof and layout to accompany the insertion order. An ordinary laser print is all that is required to print a match proof. Your hard copy proof should include the name of the file you are sending, the approximate time and date you sent the file, and any other information needed to process your advertising.
