Three Key Elements of Effective Recruitment Ads

Three Key Elements of Effective Recruitment Ads

Get maximum reader response with your line or display ad in The Oregonian Employment Classifieds by following these guidelines:

  • Visual Design. Visually direct and attractive ads have greater power and reader response. A good layout draws attention, projects the company's image and personality, and creates interest and recognition. With display ads, use simple layouts, generous white space, unique borders, photos and illustrations. Typographer's tips: Abbreviated words make the message unclear and cause the ad to lose impact. Avoid using ALL CAPS, reversed copy, italic, sans serif and condensed typefaces in the ad's body copy.
  • Headline. The first question a reader asks of a classified ad is, "What's in it for me?" Good headlines and subheads serve to reinforce copy points and emphasize benefits.
  • Body Copy. Provide job details, specifics and benefits that sell the company in the text of the ad. Describe the interview process fully. Appeal to the reader's self-interest by emphasizing what's in it for them. Be concise and original. Tell readers what your company does. make sure you mention any unique benefits or other positive aspects enjoyed by employees of your firm.
