When do I need to send my announcement?

Timing is everything! Announcements are published the first and third Sunday of each month on the Celebrations page of the O! section. Check the Celebrations Calendar for upcoming dates.

The deadline is 12:00 Noon, Thursday, 10 days prior to the desired Sunday publication.

Your forms and photo must be received no later than Thursday at noon, ten (10) days prior to desired publication date. Announcements are scheduled for publication according to volume and advance production schedules. Although we attempt to honor requests, we cannot guarantee publication dates.

Can I write my announcement or will you write it?

You may choose to write your story in your own words or use the attached form. We can also accept Microsoft Word, plain text or RTF files via email. Supply only the information you want considered for publication. Use an asterisk (*) to indicate information that may be deleted if announcement is too long.

Please print clearly. Spelling and legibility are the responsibility of the person submitting the information.

The Oregonian reserves the right to edit submissions for grammar, spelling and newspaper style without changing the meaning of your announcement.

We are not obligated to re-publish announcements for which incorrect information was provided.

How do I list names of parents, including divorced or deceased parents?

  • If your parents are married to each other and both are living, you may list them as Mr. and Mrs. and the man's full name (for instance: Mr. and Mrs. John Edward Jones of Portland.), or individually (John Edward and Patricia Ann Jones of Portland.)
  • If your parents are divorced or legally separated, they should be listed individually, including cities of residence (for instance, John Edward Jones of Portland and Patricia Ann Jones of Eugene.)
  • If either has remarried, you may name your stepparent(s) as well, if you wish (for instance, Mr. and Mrs. John Edward Jones of Portland and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Henry Smith of Eugene.)
  • If you wish to list a parent or stepparent who has died, please identify the deceased as "the late" (for instance, John Edward Jones of Portland and the late Patricia Ann Jones). If the surviving parent has remarried, please make that clear (for example, John Edward and Mary Lee Jones of Portland and the late Patricia Ann Jones.)

Why can't I send my announcement by email?

We can accept your announcement "story" information by email. See Question #2. Copies of signed forms are required for authorization and release of liability. Call 503-294-4101 for instructions.

What types of photographs do you accept?

A 4x5 or larger glossy, black & white photograph will reproduce the best. Most good-quality photos, color or back & white, at most any size will reproduce well. An un-cropped digital photo saved as a "jpg" or "tif" file at 200 DPI resolution or higher is preferred.

  • Please avoid landscape (horizontal) photos.
  • The Oregonian will return your photo. Place your name and contact information on the back.
  • Photos are scanned into a computer, then sized to fit the announcement you order.
  • Not Acceptable: Negatives, photocopies, photos scanned or printed off a computer.
  • The Oregonian is not responsible for poor reproduction of poor-quality photos or photo loss or damage.
  • We reserve the right to refuse photos that are deemed to be of poor quality and poor taste and the right to crop photos as necessary.

Can I see my ad before it's printed?

A proof will be faxed or emailed to you by Wednesday at noon four (4) days prior to publication date, or you can view it at our Broadway building. Proof changes are due by Thursday at noon three (3) days prior to publication.

Will my announcement be online?

All announcements and photos will be posted on OregonLive.com.

What is the cost?

Announcements cost $48.50 per column inch. You may choose from 13 modular sizes. See our Size & Price Guide for examples.
