Funeral Notices/Obituaries

Let us help you pay tribute to a loved one.

When you experience the loss of a loved one, our Community Connections team can help you convey information in several ways:

Three forms of tributes are published daily by The Argus:

1. Paid obituaries. With a paid obituary, you write the tribute in your own words and provide it to us. Paid obituaries publish on the day requested subject to deadline. Paid obituaries also offer photos and emblems and come with online guest books where friends and family from around the world can easily and conveniently express their sympathies and share their memories of your loved one online. View sample guest books.

2. News obituaries. These are generated by the News Department when a newsworthy public figure or other notable person dies. The News Department also publishes Life Stories, which are obituary features that pay tribute to everyday people.

3. Anniversary remembrances. These are paid ads placed in memory of a deceased loved one on the anniversary of a significant date such as their birthday, wedding anniversary, or on the anniversary of their death. Photos and emblems referring to military service or religious affiliation, for example, are optional enhancements.

When time matters most, we offer two options that publish in the next available issue of the paper:

  • Death Notices. Notices for the Tuesday edition maybe orderd online until 4 p.m. the previous Friday. Notices for the Friday edition maybe ordered online until 4 p.m. Wednesday. These paid notices are brief announcements of a person’s death before service information is determined, published within a portion of the obituary page that contains Classified ads. Death notices usually include mention of the funeral home handling the services. While these notices are most frequently placed by funeral homes, they may be placed directly by a family member or another authorized party.
  • Funeral Notices. These appear in the same portion of the obituary page that contains Classified ads. Funeral Notices announce details of planned services. These paid notices are also frequently placed by funeral homes but may be placed directly by a family member or another authorized party. The deadlines are the same as those for death notices.
